Now, that's teamwork! Kerry Mayer runs the boat and camera, Paul Earney nets the fish as Captain Russ reels in a 15-pound king salmon.
Nathan and
Kerry joined Paul Earney and Captain Russ Foster for a few days on Lake Michigan in pursuit of king salmon and steelhead. Two other avid anglers, Doug Dean and Doug Meyers joined the group later.
Captain Russ and Nate kept busy rigging the baits and rods, running spoons, dodgers and flies at various depths using downriggers, dipsey divers, and planer boards. The most productive depths were between 50 and 80 feet.
The guys experienced good weather
and fair fishing. Most boats, even the local charters, reported catches of just a few fish. The nice thing about fishing on Lake Michigan is that when you get a bite, it often converts into a nice fish.
Captain Russ guided friends and relatives throughout the week, with most anglers landing respectable king salmon weighing 10 to 23 pounds.
Thanks, Russ for a fantastic time on the “Rusty Reel”. We’ll be back... if you'll have us!
